Inside the life of your favorite McFlip. I'm a law school second year surviving in a brilliantly nostalgic, catholic, mc-flip twixter standard. "...it seemed only a question of a few years before the older people would step aside and let the world be run by those who saw things as they were -- and it all seems rosy and romantic to us who were young then, because we will never feel quite so intensely about our surroundings any more." -- F. Scott Fitzgerald _____________________ My name is Neal. I was born to an Filipino mom and an Irish dad, raised in Charlestown, Massachusetts -- for a time, in the Bunker Hill Housing Development, which is today Boston's biggest housing project. I have a sister, Roselyn, and two brothers, William and Sean. I recently became an uncle to a beautiful child named Connor, named after me, at least by derivation. I like the Cranberries and Britney Spears, lifting heavy and running long, Cracklin' Oat Bran and Moose Tracks Ice Cream. I appreciate the finer things: I can meander my way around art, music, politics, and books. I've got some learning on wines and cheese, but I make it up by knowing how to find cheap flights to Chicago, figure out the way of the land, and memorize subway stops when no one else does. In the end, though, I prefer to keep it simple. Clearly the eldest child. After high school, I decided to leave the one square mile corner of Boston that I knew the best to chase something of a magical dream. One August day in 1999, my parents' white minivan drove 890 miles from Boston to South Bend, Indiana. I arrived at the University of Notre Dame. I didn't think it was all real until I realized, as I waved goodbye to my mom and two brothers, that the white minivan would not be circling on back. Four years later, after snowstorms, football games, more laughs, and even more Masses, I packed on up to move back East. Pretense kind of annoys me, but acting civil is important to me -- what you see is what you get. For the most part, I'm a clean-cut, good Catholic boy, but you shouldn't be fooled. Scratch a little bit and you'll find a whole lot of dirty just beneath the surface. But dirty doesn't hurt; at least in my case... because once the Rudy music plays in the background, and the sun gets low to the west, my sweet whisper by the campfire will woo you into the nostalgic mood that I seem to carry about me. The people I love call me honest, witty, open-minded, and a one hell of a looker. I stand by my word and my friends... and enjoy learning about peoples and cultures. These days I spend too much time at law school, at work, or at the gym...workin one thing or another. I need to find my creative side again, but in the meantime, "the law" consumes my time. ___________ Here's what Hillary has to say about me from my Friendster testimonial page: **Hillary, Saturday, February 21, 2004:** neal boyle! the istj to my enfp! neal is the greatest worker that the ndh staff has ever seen, and he’s been my partner in craziness since our dates for an syr ditched us to hook up with each other! i will never forget our binges on chicken nuggets the night before lent, your gollum impressions, sodom and gomorrah parties, the asian ‘thong song’ in front of the basilica, endless cups tourneys at the boat, mofos international, screaming avril songs on the way to cedar point, skipping class to go drink at brew co., perpetual keg, and of course, the many coolers full of happy punch - followed by pink puke stains on my castle point carpet! for some reason the theme from 'rudy' is always playing around neal. he’s the best. i love u neal! big ups to the tobin bridge!! and you’ll always be my little brother, even though we’ve made out!
